Day 67: A glance at a genre through poster design
This poster and the other version of it, seen below, are probably two of my favorite band/tour posters, a simple, yet very eye-catching design.
The above poster for the 'Take Action Tour' is one of my least favorite posters, very cluttered...unfortunately this is how way too many tour/band posters are designed these days...I guess some could see it as a reflection of the style of music...
note: the artwork for this poster was done by one of the guitarists of ETID, Jordan Buckley, who is also an artist. He does all his work the old-school way: with a pen on paper. More of his stuff can be seen here. While some it might not appeal to your aesthetic, at least you can appreciate the skill and attention to detail in the drawings...
Simple, clean, effective, with a bit of an old-school style to it, another one of my favorites.

Day 64
I am in the midst of a re-branding, so to speak, and I am making a custom template for my blog...slowly but surely learning CSS and html...

Day 63: Don't type BRB. Just go and come back.
I haven't been able to keep up posting something that I make every day, and I am anticipating that once school starts I won't be able to either, so I have decided to free myself up and post "something cool" that I find, in hopes that other people will benefit...somehow.
This article is in the latest issue of 'Wired' magazine...absolutely brilliant.
Some awesome photos of Brad Pitt (just when my I thought my man crush was going away...) by Dan Winters - if you haven't heard of him, he's photographed everyone from Mr. Rogers to Tupac Shakur.
I'm not going to write a review of the article, because that is ridiculous. Just go read it for yourself, and take some of the advice to heart, some of my favorites were "hunger and fatigue are not interesting status updates."
Unfortunately, the layout of the online version is totally different than in print (I guess for obvious reasons) but if you have access to a physical copy of it, just look at it. The layout is very appealing, breaks tons of rules (no consistent discernible grid system, about 50 different fonts, etc) but it is just brilliant. Despite the fact that it might seem disorganized at first glance, there is a visual flow that is very subtle, yet extremely effective.
Parting rules:

Day 62
this is what the invitation finally ended up looking like...obviously this was not what was sent to the printer, the image on the left is the front and back of the card, and the image on the right is the inside... Read More......

Day 61
So...I spent the better half of my day customizing a friend's blog...now that I look at it the fact that it took so long is depressing. This is the banner...it turned out to be a huge pain in the foot. Basically I wanted the picture portion of it (e.g. just the part of it that was a picture - NOT the words) to be centered, then the words would be coming out to the left...so technically the whole thing would be off centered to the left a little, but it would look centered. It took me about 3 hours to figure out how to do that.
FML.
I guess with all of this new-found knowledge I should update my own blog...
This is the blog if you want to see more.
This is my email address if you want a custom blog template.
edit: changed the top banner to this and also did some subtle refinements.

Day 60
I've been busy...so lately I fail at this blog. But here is an invitation I spent the better part of my afternoon working on. It is an invitation to a going away party ... does "bid farewell" sound too morbid?
